Martin has been part of the Manchester music scene as a musician, songwriter, producer, remixer, DJ for 31 years now. He is head of the Music department at City College Manchester and recently set up his own Heart & Soul record label.
He is an original member of Factory Records ‘A Certain Ratio’. ACR have released 55 singles, 20 albums and appeared on 22 compilations and in two films spanning over 4 decades. A Certain Ratio have just released a new album called “Mind Made Up”.
Always an innovator, Martin’s CV not only includes playing guitar and producing other acts, he went on to cut Manchester’s first Acid House track in 88’ – Acid 2 Xstacy, by ED209. He also worked as the music co-ordinator on the film ‘’24 Hour Party People’. His job was to teach the actors how to play and recreate and produce music in the studio for playback in the film.
He has also been Djing a lot in the UK, Europe and the USA. This has been amplified since the start of the New York “Punk Funk” scene and the development of labels like DFA and bands like the LCD Soundsystem, Radio 4 and The Bravery Martin was first asked to go and DJ in New York in 2002 where he DJ’d at Luxx in Brooklyn and Open Air and Paisley in New York.
He has also DJ’d on New Jerseys famous WFMU radio station when he has visited the USA
Martins most recent trip to New York in January saw him playing at APT , and the Vice magazine party.
Martin is a regular DJ at many nights around the UK including Manchesters Electric Chair, Aficionado, Chips With everything and Glasgows Death Disco.
