GIANNI MAROCCOLO

Gianni Maroccolo was born in Manciano (GR) on May 9th 1960. A piece of our history. Gianni Maroccolo, friendly called Marok, has written the Italian independent rock scene as a musician, producer, talent scouter, heads of connections.

Born musically in Florence, a dark wave lab, he starts learning double bass, phonology and electronic music in a conservatory, while founding there the acclaimed band LITFIBA.

During that period he starts writing music soundtracks for the theatre on the lyrics of Gabriele D’Annunzio, Samuel Beckett, Pierpaolo Pisolini and Curzio Malaparte; he wrote music for films as "Tutti giù per terra”, “Escoriandoli”, “Jack Frusciante è uscito dal gruppo”, “Paz” and for the radio (documentaries, short films, radio comedies.

With Piero Pelù, Federico "Ghigo" Renzulli (guitars), Antonio Aiazzi (keyboards) and Francesco Calamai (drums) the band Litfiba lives the post punk Italian era of 1989 when Maroccolo and Ringo de Palma (dead tragically) leave the band. Over 400 gigs all over Europe and the great album "17 Re" in which Maroccolo arranged the whole masterpiece.

He founded “BEAU GESTE” ensemble with Francesco Magnelli and Antonio Aiazzi; a minimalist electronic project that produced 3 albums, films soundtracks and music for the theatre, installations and contemporary art shows.

During 1987 he started producing artists like CCCP Fedeli alla Linea, TIMORIA, ANDREA CHIMENTI, MARLENE KUNTZ, BANDABARDO’, DIAFRAMMA, CSI, PGR, ecc.

In 1993 he founded CSI – CONSORZIO SUONATORI INDIPENDENTI led by Giovanni Lindo Ferretti. During 1997 they reached the first position on record charts with an independent and experimental strong base. He founded the label CPI – CONSORZIO PRODUTTORI INDIPENDENTI, an important reality during the 90's.

After stopping with CSI Maroccolo composed music for PGR - Per Grazia Ricevuta, a project with some members from CSI.

Between 2003 and 2004 he composed the theatre show soundtrack "INIZIALI B.C.G.L.F.” directed by Giorgio Barberio Corsetti and starts his solo career with the album “A.C.A.U. La nostra Meraviglia”, a “minimal-pop” jewel with some of the voices of his 25 years career: Piero Pelù, Franco Battiato, Manuel Agnelli, Giorgio Canali, Ginevra Di Marco, Cristiano Godano, Fiamma, Lorenzo Cherubini, Cristina Donà, Andrea Chimenti, Federico Fiumani, Franceso Renga, Raizz, Carmen Consoli, Giovanni Lindo Ferretti, Cia, Cristiano Della Monica and then Magnelli, Daniela Forma, Andrea Lepri, Nina "pigna" Maroccolo, Alberto Cottica, Superpippo, Furio Di Castri, Vittorio Cosma. A psychedelic simple, honest and straight record thought completely my himself as the beginnings..

During 2004 he's in tour with PGR and together with Giorgio Sparagna & Giovanni Lindo Ferretti they artistically managed “La Notte della Taranta”. M.E.I. “Audiocoop” dedicated him the "Career Critique Prize 2004”.

At the end of 2004 he's with MARLENE KUNTZ as a musician. Recorded together the new album “BIANCO SPORCO” published in 2005 and they'll tour together. Another project brought on with IVANA GATTI as producer and musician while he brings on some teaching courses “CENTRO MUSICA DI MODENA” with the collaboration of Regione Emilia Romagna and European Social Fund.
